How PR Helped Grow Our Business

This August we celebrate a huge milestone - our one year anniversary working with Sweet {Jolie} boutique! It's been a wild ride collaborating with this incredibly dedicated team to grow Sweet {Jolie} into a well-known Alberta fashion brand. Over the past year they've been featured in dozens of media outlets, hosted even more events, donated thousands of dollars to local charities, launched a new website and raised more than $40,000 through crowdfunding to open their first retail location. Leading up to our work-iversary we thought we'd get founder Nicole Rice's feedback on how PR has supported the growth of her business.

PR: Tell us a bit about your business

N: Sweet {Jolie} is a community conscious women's clothing boutique based in Edmonton, Alberta. I started Sweet {Jolie} to empower myself and other women to find self-confidence and strength to uplift others. We sell on-trend boho-chic clothing and accessories both online and in our brand new boutique in downtown Edmonton. A big focus of our business is giving back to the community through our fundraising series A {Love} Project.

PR: When or how did you know you needed PR?

N: We knew we wanted to raise awareness for what we were doing as a company and that getting media coverage would be the best way to spread the word. We also knew that the work of getting press for our events and community involvement was a full-time job in itself!

PR: What has been the biggest learning curve for you when working with media?

N: How fast paced and ever-changing the industry is was a surprise to us. Also the fact that you need to be ready to go at the drop of a hat for live segments or a newsworthy clip!

PR: How has media coverage furthered your business?

N: Media has given us a new platform to reach thousands of new customers and non-profit organizations that maybe wouldn't have heard about Sweet {Jolie} through our website, Facebook or Instagram. It's provided us with credibility and kept our brand top of mind.

PR: If you could offer one piece of advice for someone looking to hire for public relations, what would you share?

N: You will NEVER regret hiring a professional to expand your audience and help execute your plans. Publicity Room has been one of the biggest supporters of Sweet {Jolie} and we are honoured to have them in our corner.  Janis and Brittany go above and beyond to represent us and our brand in a way that we wouldn't be able to on our own.

PR: Awe, shucks.
